Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Testing

Sexually Transmitted Infection testing

If you think you may have an STI, it’s important to talk with a medical professional and be tested. However, many STIs don’t cause symptoms, so it’s possible to have one and not know it. Facing the possibility of a sexually transmitted disease is scary, but you don’t have to go through it alone. If you’d like to know for sure, schedule your free STI test appointment today.

Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) testing at The Hannah Center

At our clinic, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomonas testing can be performed on the same urine sample that you provide for a pregnancy test, or we can provide this limited STI testing as a single service.  If you test positive for one of these infections, we can refer you for treatment.

STDs and STIs: What are they and what's the difference?

The terms STI (sexually transmitted infection) and STD (sexually transmitted disease) are often used interchangeably, but there is a difference. STI is the broader of the two terms. All STDs are STIs, though not all STIs become STDs. You can be contagious and spread the infection or disease even if you aren’t showing any symptoms.

A STI is an infection that can be transmitted through sexual activity (e.g. vaginal, oral and anal sex, non-penetrative sex or mutual masturbation), which may or may not be accompanied by symptoms. Some STIs may clear up on their own or cause minimal symptoms.

A STD describes an infection caused by an STI that has progressed to causing symptoms or damage to a person's body after the development of the initial infection. STDs can be transmitted through bodily fluids and, in some cases, skin-to-skin contact during sexual activity. Like STIs, an STD may or may not be accompanied by symptoms. STDs can still cause severe damage and can be passed to your partner(s) without your knowledge.
